BuckBeaks Return

This is a guild challenge piece from last year(2008). I used sheer organza to create the illusion of drifting clouds that Buckbeak was pulling....the castle is my imaginations idea of what a magical castle should be. I love the fading apricot evening sky and the swarvski chrystals twinkling in the sky. As usual, embellishment holds a facination for me so the trees have wonderful seed pearls...I like the way the binding breaks with the picture yet extends it also...I love the idea that some of the trees "got loose" and ran off into the border...The moon is a re-occuring element in many of my quilts.

Morning's Moon Set

This piece was done to experiment with sheer fabrics and photo transfer. I wanted to capture the soft misty illusion of early morning...I also appliqued some unique yarns to re-enforce the horizon line...It's a more abstract approach for me....Its a small 9 X 12 "tester quilt"...I think I will use more sheer fabrics on my larger pieces now that I see how they quilt...

Landscapes times Three

I got the Fassett backing behind me and it feels good to know that project is moving along. Now all it needs is quilting and binding...LOL...just...

New project for AIR (due Aug 9 Yipes !...)is a three part landscape. This is an in- process photo as I am checking color distribution and balance and how the three pieces talk to each other. So far. I like what they are saying...I am still messing with mountains and several major elements that I am creating...

A New Challenge

Today's struggle is finishing the back of a workshop quilt I started in a Kaffe Fassett class. I need to make the backing....but since I don't feel like its MY QUILT...I am having a problem putting the time in it...It's a fun quilt and I like the colors....it just doesn't feel like somthing I designed. I would rather be working on a totally new piece and creating something interesting. If I continue down this path, there could be an ugly accumulation of UFO's in my closet....

Leaf Ladies

What happen to the intent to post at least every week? Some how life gets in the way and good intentions pave the...well you know the rest....

This is my most recent art quilt, completed last April. I designed it for the local quilt competition. It is the most satisfying of all my Art Quilts todate. It shows the Leaf Ladies on the special night each year when they come out to dress the trees.....I think this thought so inspired me, that I am working on a childrens book to share this fairytale....maybe with my my smallest grandchildren who do not believe in fairies or magic....

This Year's Challenge

Last year's guild challenge 2007 was "Flights of Fantasy". It was a struggle for me to get my ideas into reality....I had started with a pre-conceived idea about what I thought I needed to do.....Big Mistake....After 3 days and 1 blog.....I trashed the whole thing and decided I would just make a quilt that was exciting to me. My creativity took wing and I was really happy with the quilt that I created. I earned the comment; "Best interpretation of theme" from one of the viewers.

Now it's that time again, and I am working on this year's challenge quilt. The Challenge is
" I found It in the Library" I did the same thing, and created a quilt that was fun and challenging to me, then I found a book that fit. It's called "Buckbeak's Return". I wonder if you can guess where my idea came from?

A Fine New Year

How nice to have a brand new year to start over again.........Surely this one will not fly away as quickly as the last one...? I had a computer melt down last year and a new email address so finding my Blog again this year was a challenge but I did it so I am happy. My goal this year is at least 12 blogs....one a month would be nice but let's not get overly excited....

This is the new friend who is visiting our windows to entertain the cats....especially on rainy days.
